As the boy said in the movie “Halloween,” “You can’t kill the boogeyman!” Our instincts always have our self-awareness on guard against threats to survival. And the threats will just keep coming and coming. This is the real Sisyphusian horror – not to roll a rock up a hill day after day only to have it roll back down the hill, but to fight an evil being for our mere survival day after day, and every day the same evil being shows up trying to destroy us. More than this, we know in the end that the evil being who seeks our death must win. Unless I am some kind of existential exception, which is not even remotely likely, then I must acknowledge that I will die like all those who have gone before me.
